- Dr. Philipp Harbach is a dedicated digital innovator, currently serving as the Global Head of Group Digital Innovation in the Chief Science & Technology Office at Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. Alongside his diverse team of professionals, he focuses on driving digital innovation using modern data science, AI and computational modelling methods including Quantum Computing. Prior to his current role, Dr. Harbach served as the Head of Digital Chemistry, where he explored the development of cutting-edge digital technologies and products for chemistry-related use cases. He first joined Merck in 2014 as a Laboratory Head, where he established a foundation for computational chemistry within the Electronics business, specifically in the field of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Dr. Harbach earned his PhD in theoretical chemistry from the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) at Heidelberg University in 2013. His research focused on developing and applying advanced theoretical methods for molecular systems in photochemistry, which resulted in several international publications and citations.
